Female Osprey Lays Two Eggs at Loch Garten
At the RSPB's Loch Garten Osprey Centre on Speyside, a female osprey has laid a second clutch of eggs after her mate smashed those fathered by another.
When EJ returned from her migration in West Africa, she arrived before her normal partner Henry and mated with VS. When Henry returned, he realised that the eggs were not his and consequently, kicked them out.
However, the RSPB has confirmed that EJ has now laid two new eggs and it is hoped a third will follow.
Ospreys usually mate for life so it was unusual to see such an occurrence at the site.
The Loch Garten Osprey Centre is situated in the breathtaking Cairngorms National Park and offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy direct views of the osprey nest from the centre and also live video images. The centre is open from April to August from 10am to 6pm and is situated 10 miles north east of Aviemore. For more information please contact 01479 831476.
